Reichenstein Castle (Ruin)

The exact period of construction and the original builders of Reichenstein Castle are not known. It is presumed to have emerged between the 12th and 13th centuries from an early settlement core. In the 13th century, the castle belonged to the Bohemian lords of Hostau, before passing to the Landgraves of Leuchtenberg in 1333 through purchase. In 1350, the lordship of Reichenstein, along with Pleistein, was enfeoffed to King Charles IV as a Bohemian fief. After further changes of ownership, including to the knight Tobias von Waldau in 1416, the castle was conquered by the Hussites in 1431. However, Duke Johann von Neunburg managed to secure the return of the castle after a siege in September 1432.
