Reußen Castle (Ruin)

Around 1320, the Barons of Thüngen emerged as landowners in Bonnland and, eleven years later, in 1331, erected the Reußenburg on a neighboring hill. Reuß I. von Thüngen was mentioned as the owner of the locality in 1356. The late 15th and early 16th centuries were a period of insecurity in the German Empire, marked by robber knights who ambushed travelers. Although an eternal public peace was declared at the Diet of Worms in 1495, the situation did not improve. The Swabian League, founded in 1488 and appointed as the imperial executive in 1489, was intended to curb these attacks.
