The Ringenberg ruin, once a hilltop castle, is located on a topographical spur near Maierhöfen. Remnants of its walls offer a glimpse into medieval architecture.

History+

The origins of Ringenberg Castle date back to around 1230, when it was built by the Lords of Ringenberg. Its first documented mention occurred in 1291, referring to a knight of Ringenburg, also known as von Horben zu Ringenberg. The Horben zu Ringenberg family served as knights and vassals to the Counts of Montfort-Bregenz. In the mid-15th century, the castle passed into the possession of the Horben zu Ringenberg. In 1776, due to over-indebtedness, the complex was sold to the farmer Anton Wagner and subsequently fell into disrepair.
