Rötenberg Castle (Ruin)

Rötenberg Castle, also known as Rötenburg, Röterturm, or Turmberg, is a castle ruin on the Turmberg hill near the hamlet of Mittelrot in the municipality of Fichtenberg in the district of Schwäbisch Hall in Baden-Württemberg.

First documented in 1338, the hilltop castle was built between the 12th and 13th centuries. It is considered certain that it was sold in 1377 by Albrecht Haug von Rossenstein to Schenk Albrecht von Limpurg and 29 years later went as a fief to the Electoral Palatinate. The castle was probably destroyed as early as the beginning of the 15th century.

The preserved keep (Röterturm), built of ashlar masonry, has a height of 21 meters on a base area of 9.3 x 9.3 meters and an entrance at a height of 10.8 meters.
