Roggenbach Castle (Ruin)

Roggenbach Castle is a ruined castle on a high mountain ridge 400 meters from the ruins of Steinegg Castle near Wittlekofen, a district of Bonndorf, in the Waldshut district in Baden-Württemberg.

The hilltop castle, built around 1200 by the Counts of Nellenburg, was first mentioned in 1288 during a sale and was destroyed in 1525 during the Peasants' War, as was the neighboring Steinegg Castle. The ruin consists of two complexes, which have two towers; these temporarily belonged to different knightly families, which is why the tower that can be climbed today is called Grüningen, and the other tower is also called Weissenburg, after the ancestral castle of the Barons of Krenkingen in Klettgau near Weisweil (Weissenburg). The noble family of the Barons of Roggenbach derives its origin from the castle.

The former castle complex still shows remains of the foundations of the residential buildings, the northern keep, remains of a separating wall, and remains of the still climbable southern keep.
