The Roggenstein (Rackendorf) ruin was probably built in the 12th century. In the 15th century, ownership passed to the Barons von Stein zu Rackenstein, which is why Rackendorf became Rackenstein. In 1498, the castle was destroyed by Landgrave Johann IV.
