The Rotenstein Ruin, also known as Ober-Rothenstein, is near Rottweil-Hausen in Baden-Württemberg. It is located at the Eschach crossing and in close proximity to the Wildenstein Ruin, on a historic connecting route between Rottweil and Villingen.

History+

The first documented mention of Rotenstein Castle occurred in 1308. At this time, it is believed to have been owned by Counts Rudolf and Albrecht von Hohenberg. For a long period, the complex then belonged to the Bletz von Rotenstein family. In the 18th century, the castle changed hands and was sold to the Imperial Abbey of Rottenmünster. From 1919 onwards, the castle was gradually dismantled.
