Burg Ruhlkirchen+
Geschichte+

The castle was built in the 12th century by the Lords of Ruhlkirchen. Around 1200, the encircling walls were reinforced. From 1262-1269, Gerlach von Ruhlkirchen and his wife Jutta were mentioned in documents. Later, the Lords of Ruhlkirchen were in Hessian service in Alsfeld. Ruhlkirchen had come into the possession of the Archbishop of Mainz during this time. In 1293, the castle was destroyed by Landgrave Heinrich I of Hesse. In 1986/87, the castle was excavated.
