Salons (Schlans)

The exact period of Salons Castle's construction is not documented, but experts suggest it was built in the early 13th century. Its secluded location in a cleared area indicates a small allodial lordship, an assumption supported by the field name Plaun da Plaids, which refers to a court square. Written records of the castle only appear in the 14th century, when it passed from the extinct Lords of Schlans/Grünenfels to the Montalt family. In the 14th century, the Schlans and Grünenfels complexes formed a unified dominion. In 1357, Heinrich von Montalt transferred Salons Castle to his brother-in-law, Baron Ulrich von Belmont, receiving it back as a fief. Later, in 1378, the complex became part of the Jörgenberg lordship of the Rhäzüns.
