Schauenburg Castle (Ruin)
The Schauenburg ruin, a hilltop castle, sits on a rocky spur above the Danube Valley. Located in the municipality of Stetten am kalten Markt, in the Sigmaringen district of Baden-Württemberg.
History+
The origins of Schauenburg likely date back to the 13th century, when it was built by the Knights of Schauenburg. A Gotwinus de Schowenberc is documented as early as 1270. In 1430, the castle was destroyed by the Counts of Sigmaringen. Later, in 1497, the site was mentioned as 'Schowenberg das burgstall' in the possession of the Lords of Hausen.

Visitors can explore the remains of the ruin. From the original castle complex, minor wall remnants on the northwest side and parts of a building made of small ashlar stones on the southeast side are still preserved. The core castle area measures approximately 22 by 28 meters and is bordered by two small ditch sections to the north and south.
