Schnellerts Castle (Ruin) (Brensbach)

There are no written records about the origins of Schnellerts Castle. Archaeological findings suggest that the complex was built in the 13th century and likely destroyed shortly after its completion. The name “Schnellerts” was transferred from the mountain to the castle and first appeared in 1426 in connection with a “snelharts wiese”. In 1742, the ruin was first mentioned in the “Reichenberger Protokolle,” where it was associated with the “Schnellerts spirit.” For a long time, the complex was considered a Roman fortification until it was recognized as a medieval castle in 1886. In the 20th century, archaeological excavations and restoration work led to the preservation of the visible walls today.
