On the Schlossberg near Rötz in the Upper Palatinate district of Cham lies the Schwarzenburg Ruin, also known as Schwarzwihrberg. It is a High Medieval to early modern noble castle.

History+

The Schwarzenburg Castle was founded in the 11th century. Around 1450, the fortifications were strengthened, and around the year 1500, the complex underwent an expansion with bastions and a roundel. It was destroyed by Swedish troops in 1634 during the Thirty Years' War. Subsequently, it served the local population as a quarry.
