Sengersberg Castle (Ruin)
Sengersberg Castle Ruin is the ruin of a hilltop castle on the 613.7-meter-high rocky peak of Sengersberg, 170 meters above the Perlbach near the district of Au in the market town of Falkenstein in the Upper Palatinate district of Cham in Bavaria.
The castle was first mentioned in 1269 as "Burg ze Segensperch" in the possession of Regensburg Bishop Leo and was occupied by episcopal ministerials. From 1326, the castle was in the possession of the Bavarian dukes and belonged to the Lengenfeld vice-dominate.
The main episcopal ministerial family is documented at the castle, which came to the Palatine Wittelsbachers in 1329 through the Treaty of Pavia and to the territory of Count Palatine Ruprecht in 1334, until 1337. In 1343, Calhoch Hofer zu Karlstein received the castle as a fief.
Description+
The trapezoidal castle complex was divided into an upper and lower castle, presumably separated by a section ditch. Remains of rubble stone retaining walls in the area of the upper castle probably originate from a keep and a residential building. From the lower castle, which is fronted by a neck ditch to the south, remains of the western and southern curtain walls are still preserved.
