The remains of the Castle can be visited

In the Bavarian Forest, on the outskirts of the village of Siegenstein, which today belongs to the municipality of Wald in the district of Cham, Bavaria, stand the ruins of Siegenstein, remnants of a trapezoidal castle complex from the 13th century.

History+

According to tradition, the origins of Siegenstein Castle date back approximately 900 years. Following the division of Bavaria in 1255, Siegenstein fell to Duke Ludwig II of Bavaria. In 1282, he transferred the castle with all rights to the Prince-Bishopric of Regensburg, then under Bishop Heinrich II. Bishop Heinrich, in turn, enfeoffed Konrad von Erenfels with the estate. In 1320, the fortress passed to Dietrich von der Au, followed by Friedrich Hauzendorfer as administrator in 1329. Friedrich der Auer von Brennberg returned the Siegenstein property to the Regensburg Cathedral Chapter in 1353.
