Sissacherfluh Castle (Ruin)

The settlement of Sissacherfluh began in the late Bronze Age, evidenced by remains of post houses. In the Early Middle Ages, a two-meter-thick defensive wall with a gate and tower was erected to protect the area. This fortification was once significantly higher than the visible remains today. From the Thirty Years' War onwards, Sissacherfluh was integrated as a high watch into the Swiss warning and reporting system. Remains of walls from this period are still preserved near the viewpoint. Extensive excavations took place in 1936.
