The remains of the Castle can be visited

The Ruine Stein, a cave castle, rises on a rock formation above the Danube Valley, near Friedlingen, a district of Tuttlingen in Baden-Württemberg.

History+

The construction of Stein Castle is dated between 1100 and 1150 based on ceramic finds and the analysis of the preserved keep. It is believed to have been a successor to an earlier castle in the nearby Burgstallhöhle. There are no written records about the original builders. The castle was abandoned in the second half of the 13th century. In 1381, the complex probably fell to the Duchy of Austria.
