The Steineck Ruin, also known as Steineckke or Nordeck, is a high medieval castle complex located near Steinach in Lower Franconia. Its position on an elevation east of the Franconian Saale.

History+

The first documented mention of Steineck Castle dates back to 1201, when King Philip of Hohenstaufen transferred it to Prince-Bishop Konrad von Querfurt of Würzburg. Later, the complex was owned by the Henneberg family clan. Count Poppo VII managed to contractually secure the ownership rights to the valley castle Steinaha and Steineck Castle in 1240. The last mention of the castle as a burgstall occurred in 1443, when Caspar von Ostheim was enfeoffed with it. According to tradition, the castle is said to have burned down on Christmas Eve.
