Stiegelesfels Castle (Ruin)
The Stiegelesfels Ruin, a former hilltop castle, is situated in a nature reserve near Fridingen in the Tuttlingen district of Baden-Württemberg. Its remains were divided into a lower and an upper castle.
History+
The hilltop castle was constructed in the first half of the 12th century. It consisted of a lower castle, likely serving as a bailey, and an upper castle situated on a narrow rock ridge. A tower-like residential building is presumed to have been in the core area of the upper castle. The town of Fridingen is mentioned as an early owner.
On site+
Today, remnants of the lower castle walls are still visible. These walls are about 7 meters long and 2 to 3 meters high, constructed with small ashlar masonry. The ruin is accessible to visitors.
