Streitburg Castle (Ruin)

The exact construction date of the castle is unknown, but it is believed that the Lords of Streitberg erected the complex as their free property before 1120. From 1285, the Lords of Schlüsselberg exercised feudal suzerainty over parts of the castle. After their extinction in 1347, Streitburg fell in equal parts to the Bishops of Bamberg and Würzburg. In 1508, the castle became the property of Margrave Friedrich of Brandenburg-Kulmbach and subsequently served as a military base and administrative seat. During the Second Margrave War in 1553, the castle was conquered and destroyed by troops from Nuremberg and the Bishops of Bamberg and Würzburg. Reconstruction took place between 1562 and 1565.
