The remains of the Castle can be visited

Southwest of the village of Sünikon in the Canton of Zurich lies the Sünikon ruin, a former tower castle. Its history is linked to the pilgrimage route to Einsiedeln Monastery.

History+

In the 13th and 14th centuries, a knightly family from Sünikon is mentioned in documents as vassals of the Regensbergers, before their traces disappear after 1397. During excavations in 1961, while a forest road was being built, remains of the walls of an almost square building were discovered. By the summer of 1962, the walls, up to 1.3 meters thick, were uncovered.
