Surcasti Castle (Ruin)

The exact construction date of Surcasti Castle is not documented but is presumed to be in the early 12th century. Written mentions of the complex or the associated Sogn Luregn Church appear from 1345 onwards. The von Übercastel family, who emerged as episcopal vassals, is first mentioned around 1325. Their last male descendant died around 1425. In 1520, the castle's square keep was converted into the bell tower of the parish church, whose current late Gothic structure dates from between 1515 and 1520. Renovations in 1774 shaped the church's present appearance.
