Tachenstein Castle (Ruin)
The Tachenstein Ruin, also known as Dachenstein, is in the Altmühltal Nature Park. Particularly striking is the preserved keep, rising from the wooded terrain.
History+
Tachenstein Castle, a hilltop castle, was presumably built by the Counts of Riedenburg or their successors, the Wittelsbachs. However, by the 16th century, the complex had fallen into disrepair and became a ruin.
On site+
The approximately 10-meter-high keep, built from ashlar masonry, with a base area of about 7.5 by 7.5 meters, is preserved. The neck ditch, carved into the rock, is also still visible.
