Tannenberg Castle (Ruin) (Jugenheim)

The origins of Tannenberg Castle possibly date back to the early 12th century, built on the foundations of an even older fortification. It was first mentioned in documents in 1239 as Seeheim Castle. Around 1230, Ulrich I. von Münzenberg had the castle built on Lorscher land to secure his southern administrative area. After the death of Ulrich II. von Hagen-Münzenberg, the majority of the castle went to Philipp von Falkenstein and later to Guda von Bickenbach, while a smaller share went to Reinhard I. von Hanau. In 1379, 18 knights met at the castle to conclude an extended castle peace. By the end of the 14th century, the castle had become a robber baron's nest, from which raids and plundering originated. An alliance of Archbishop Johann von Mainz, Count Palatine Ruprecht III, and other allies besieged the castle in June 1399.
