Tellenburg Castle (Ruin) (Frutigen)
The Tellenburg is a castle ruin from the 12th century above the municipality of Frutigen in the canton of Bern. The castle served to control the Lötschberg Pass and is located next to the Felsenburg.
The castle was built around 1200 by the Barons of Kien. The fortifications were further expanded in the 13th and 14th centuries. In 1400, Bern acquired the entire Frutigtal and made the Tellenburg the seat of the Bernese bailiff. In 1798, the castle was converted into a poorhouse and fell victim to a fire in 1885.
