The remains of the Castle can be visited

The Tiefenstein Ruin is at approximately 520 meters above sea level in the municipality of Görwihl in the district of Waldshut, Baden-Württemberg. Of this hilltop castle, only a few wall remnants remain today.

History+

The origins of Tiefenstein Castle likely date back to the 13th century. It was first mentioned in a document in 1241. It is believed that the Lords of Teufen were its builders and that the castle gave its name to the then-village of Tiefenstein. Later, the castle lords themselves adopted the name "Lords of Tiefenstein". In 1272, the complex was destroyed by Rudolf von Habsburg.
