The ruin of Unterwildenstein, a high medieval rock castle, is on an isolated rock ridge near Leibertingen in Baden-Württemberg. It is part of a group of four castles older than Wildenstein Castle and has a cave that extends deep into the castle rock.

History+

The origins of Unterwildenstein are presumed to be in the 12th century. Due to a lack of documents, it remains unclear whether it was an independent complex or belonged to the Altwildenstein Castle situated above it. Today, only remnants of walls survive, indicating the former fortification on the rock ridge. A rock gully in front of the castle site was once walled up.
