In Veringenstadt, encircled by the Lauchert river, the Veringen Ruin stands on a ridge behind the parish church. This former hilltop castle today offers a glimpse into bygone eras.

History+

The origins of Veringen Castle date back to the early 12th century, when it was presumably built between 1100 and 1130 by Count Marquard von Veringen. Its first documented mention dates to 1134. Around 1200, the complex underwent a redesign using ashlar masonry, with the residential tower being newly constructed. In 1344, Count Heinrich von Veringen sold the rights to the castle, the town, and the surrounding villages to Counts Eberhard and Ulrich von Württemberg. Later restoration work by Hans von Werdenberg is documented for 1464, as are further construction measures in 1487.
