The Vernaburg ruin, also known as Krewetburg, is the remains of a moated castle. It is located in the Verne district of Salzkotten in the Paderborn district of North Rhine-Westphalia.

History+

The Vernaburg castle was founded in 1607 by Wilhelm von Krewet, a member of a Paderborn ministerial family who served as castellans for the Bishop of Paderborn. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle played an important role, particularly in the context of the siege and destruction of nearby Salzkotten. After the Krewet family died out, the complex lost its importance and fell into disrepair.
