Wackenau Castle (Ruin) (Bonaduz)
The Wackenau ruin is a former hilltop castle, in a spur position above a loop of the Vorderrhein river. It is located in the municipality of Bonaduz in the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland.
History+
There are no written records regarding the origin and historical events associated with Wackenau Castle. The sparse remains of the walls do not allow for clear conclusions about its construction period. It is believed that the castle once served to protect the road to Trin, which crossed a bridge in this area.
On site+
Visitors can explore the Wackenau ruin. Although only a few remains are preserved, traces of a neck ditch and parts of the enclosing wall can still be seen. The site is accessible on foot from a parking lot west of Bonaduz in about twenty minutes.
