Waseneck Castle (Ruin)
Waseneck Castle, also known as Wasseneck, is a castle ruin located 1250 meters west of the Altobernorf district of the city of Oberndorf am Neckar in the Rottweil district of Baden-Württemberg.
The castle was built around 1220 by the Dukes of Teck, expanded and extended in 1270. In 1295, the Maiers of Waseneck are mentioned as administrators and castellans until 1363. In 1363, Duke Friedrich of Teck inherited the castle; it changed hands several times, came into the possession of Count Eberhard IV of Württemberg in 1416, fell into disrepair, and was referred to as a ruin in 1460. In 1806, the by then heavily dilapidated castle became state property of the Kingdom of Württemberg. From 1968 to 1980, the foundations were excavated, restored, and partially rebuilt.
Layout+
Significant parts of the keep, parts of the main castle, parts of the palas shield wall, the inner courtyard with a well, and moats of the former castle complex are preserved. The outer moat now serves as a forest path.
