The Wiesenburg ruin in Niederwerrn, Bavaria, is a remnant of a castle complex.

History+

A mention of a castle in Niederwerrn from 1252 can be found in the local chronicle. The first documentary mention of Niederwerrn in connection with a castle dates back to June 17, 1137. According to historian Gerhard Bach, the castle was built no earlier than 1236, probably commissioned by the Diocese of Würzburg. It was owned by various noble families, including the Lords of Wenkheim, before passing to the von Münster family on April 14, 1420. The castle was destroyed in the Palatine Peasants' War in 1525 but was rebuilt in the 16th century.
