The Yburg ruin, a former residential castle, stands amidst the vineyards above the Kernen district of Stetten im Remstal. Its unique feature is that it was not built on a hill, but directly into the slope, surrounded by the vineyards of Pulvermächer, Lindhälder, and Brotwasser.

History+

The exact time of origin of the Yburg, originally known as Eibenburg, is unknown, but it was built in the early 14th century by the Truchsessen of Stetten. After the construction of a moated castle in the valley between 1384 and 1387, the Yburg lost its significance. In 1443, Hans von Yberg sold the castle and his share of the village to the House of Württemberg. Although described as dilapidated in 1598, the castle was repaired in 1659 and extended with a fourth floor. Duke Carl Eugen of Württemberg finally ordered the demolition of the complex in 1760/61, leaving only the outer walls visible today. As a purely residential castle, the Yburg had no defensive structures.
