Ziegenburg Castle (Ruin) (Ziegenhagen)

The construction of Ziegenburg Castle is dated to around 1100. In 1116, Count Dedo de Zygenberch was first mentioned in documents, whose family split into three lines at the beginning of the 13th century. One of these lines, the Hermann line, died out in 1266. In 1320, the castle was captured by Landgrave Otto I of Hesse and later pledged to the von Berlepsch family. In 1494, it became a male fief of Georg von Buttlar. Erasmus von Buttlar was the last owner in the mid-16th century, before the castle fell into disrepair and was partially demolished after 1541.
