History+
The de Sausmarez family is first mentioned in Guernsey in 1115. An early ancestor, William De Saumareis, was involved in an inquiry into the rights of the Abbot of St. Michel in 1254. The original manor house, of which only a 13th-century fragment remains, stayed in family possession until 1557. After the death of George de Sausmarez without direct descendants, the estate passed to his sister Judith and her English husband John Andrews. Their son John Andros built the second house in Tudor style in 1585.
