Weiherhof Castle

The former Weiherhof Manor is located in the Gneis district of Salzburg (Biberngasse 31).

It is first mentioned around 1600 as the manor "on the lower pond" of the Salzburg Cathedral Chapter; this "manor above the Gmain" came from the Bishops of Chiemsee to the Cathedral Chapter in exchange for the hunting lodge Guggenthal. However, the pond, which gave the manor its name, was drained in the early 20th century to gain building land. A farmstead also belonged to the manor. This is located next to the main building (Biberngasse 29). On the north facade of this building, there is a marble plaque with the coat of arms of Bishop Ägidius Rem, Bishop of Chiemsee, a former owner of the Weiherhof.

In the 19th century, the Weiherhof was converted into a farmhouse with residential and stable sections. The stables are equipped with a vault (Bohemian cap, also called Platzelgewölbe) and marble columns; today, an art gallery is housed here.

The building is privately owned and is used as a residence and as a gallery (Weiherhofgalerie). The exhibition space of the gallery can be visited during exhibition hours.
