On the south coast of the island of Lolland, Aalholm Castle is the oldest castle in the region. It is situated near Nysted in the Guldborgsund municipality.

The first documented mention of Aalholm Castle dates back to 1329. The construction of the main building began around 1300 and was completed in 1585.
