Absberg Castle

The origins of the estate date back to a castle of the Absberg family, which was destroyed in 1523 during the Absberg Feud. A reconstruction of the complex took place between 1593 and 1595. After the Absberg family died out in 1647, the property fell to the Teutonic Order in 1652, which demolished the existing castle. The current castle was built between 1723 and 1726 as a vogtei. The client was Karl Heinrich von Hornstein, the plans came from Franz Keller, with Gabriel de Gabrieli presumed to be the master builder. In 1777, a castle chapel was added and an orchard was laid out. After the dissolution of the Order in 1806, the castle first came into the possession of the Kingdom of Bavaria and then into private ownership in 1809.
