Achstetten Castle
In the municipality of Achstetten in Baden-Württemberg stands Achstetten Castle, a structure that displays classical elegance.
History+
A castle was mentioned at this location as early as 1386. A moat is documented for the year 1449. During the Peasants' War in 1525, the castle was destroyed by rebellious peasants. A reconstruction took place later, as evidenced by a mention from 1583. The castle received its current form in 1794, when Baron Beat Conrad Reuttner von Weyl, the last commander of the Teutonic Knights, had it renovated and rebuilt in the classical style by the order's architect, Franz Anton Bagnato. Bagnato designed a simple, three-story residential building, flanked by two wings that served as utility buildings.
