Adelmannsfelden Castle

The origins of the current castle date back to the 11th century, when a fortress stood on this site. A castle complex in Adelmannsfelden was already mentioned in 1113, and archaeological investigations of the walls have revealed Romanesque architectural remains. A noble family was first named in 1136, but the existence of the castle and the place name suggest an earlier settlement. During the Interregnum, the property passed to the Counts of Oettingen, who, however, sold it to Ellwangen Abbey in 1361. Just 19 years later, the Schenken von Limpurg acquired the complex, which presumably served as their hunting lodge. In 1493, Adelmannsfelden was pledged to the Lords of Vohenstein, who held the castle until 1737. After the Vohenstein family died out in the male line, the inheritance was divided among several families.
