Admontbichl Castle, a structure with roots in the 14th century, today presents itself in its 17th-century form. It is situated on a wooded hill in Styria and once served as an administrative seat.

History+

The history of Admontbichl Castle began in 1367 when Admont Abbey acquired the Mereinhof zu Pichl. The estate was fortified to offer protection to the population in times of need and developed into a central administrative seat for the surrounding lands of the abbey. Various administrators and tenants alternated, including the Kainacher, Gallenberger, Zach, and Goltschän families. Under Daniel Ritter von Gallenberg, the estate was extensively expanded from 1530 on behalf of Admont Abbey, leading to the creation of the current chapel and a bastion. Master builders such as Hans de la Porta and Bernard de Novo were involved in this expansion.
