Adolfsburg Castle, a baroque moated castle, was built in the 1670s and primarily served its builder, Johann Adolf von Fürstenberg, as a place of recreation and a retirement residence. It is situated at the entrance to Oberhundem in the Hundem Valley.

The construction of Adolfsburg can be attributed to Johann Adolf von Fürstenberg, a canon and provost from a family. For this purpose, he acquired several farm estates in Oberhundem. It is believed that the Capuchin friar and architect Ambrosius von Oelde designed the plans for the castle. Emperor Leopold I elevated the estate to a noble manor in 1676. Johann Adolf von Fürstenberg lived permanently in the castle from 1679 until his death in 1704. Subsequent generations of the von Fürstenberg family also used Adolfsburg, though later primarily as a hunting lodge, as the family seat was moved to Herdringen Castle. In 1919, the castle was leased to the Missionaries of the Holy Family, who established a missionary school there. This school was closed by the National Socialists in 1940.
