Agnestal Castle

Agnestal Castle originated from a former manor, which was part of the Hundheim fiefdom. In 1716, the Palatine General Hermann von Freudenberg acquired the property and commenced construction of a court complex. Following his death in 1738, the fief returned to the Hundsheim family for approximately 30 years. From 1769, it was owned by Carl Philipp von Venningen and his wife Anna Maria von Hutten, who completed the castle by 1780. The name Agnestal derives from an Agnes Chapel that disappeared in the 19th century, while Seehälde refers to the former fish ponds nearby. The Venningen family temporarily used the castle as an agricultural estate, leading to the loss of the original garden layouts. After agriculture ceased in 1968 and a brief period with a restaurant and disco, the municipality of Zuzenhausen acquired the property in 1986. However, a comprehensive renovation was not feasible due to cost constraints.
