Aigen Castle

To be privately owned

In the south of Salzburg city, Aigen Castle, an aristocratic residence, lends its name to the eponymous district. Surrounded by green spaces at the foot of the Gaisberg, it is a prominent landmark in the Salzburg landscape.

History+

The origins of Aigen Castle date back to 1402, when it was first mentioned as a “free property” of the cathedral chapter. After numerous changes of ownership, Levin von Mortaigne acquired the estate in 1614, transforming the manor into an aristocratic country seat. The associated spa was renowned for its healing waters in the 16th and early 17th centuries. In 1647, Aigen passed to the Barons von Prankh, who sold it to Johann Josef Graf Kuenburg in 1673.
