Albrechtsberg Castle

The builder of the castle, which dates back to the 12th century, is unknown. It was probably the Kuenringer family, who owned large estates in this area. The castle was first mentioned in a document in 1230 with Konrad von Albrechtsperge.

In 1263, Gundakar von Starhemberg was in possession of the lordship. In 1377, it was sold by Rüdiger d. J. von Starhemberg to Ulrich von Neidegg. The Neideggers kept Albrechtsberg until 1527, but mostly had it administered by stewards. During the Hussite Wars, the castle suffered severe damage, which led to major reconstruction work. The expansion into the present-day castle took place under Erasmus von Peuckham, who acquired the lordship from the Neideggers.

Since the Peuckhams were Protestants, imperial troops under Buquoy again caused severe devastation in 1619 during the Thirty Years' War. Christoph Wilhelm Veldendorf bought the property in 1630. After his death, Hans Bernhard Zägkhler acquired it in 1652, but sold it ten years later to Matthias Ernst Spindler. He incorporated the further expanded Albrechtsberg into a fideicommissum and bequeathed it in 1695 to his grandson Hans Karl Ignaz Lempruch. The castle remained with his descendants until the second half of the 20th century, when Karl Graf Lempruch, the last of his family, sold it. The current owner is Univ. Prof. Dr. Dr. Alexander Tollmann.
