Aldingen Castle

Aldingen Castle, also known as the New Castle or Outer Castle, is a manor house built in 1580 in the Renaissance style in Remseck am Neckar in the Ludwigsburg district.

The castle was built after the Reformation by Heinrich von Kaltental as the seat of the Protestant line of the Lords of Kaltental. Together with the Meierhof, the barns, stables, and carriage houses, the castle formed a square courtyard, which until 1900 was only accessible through two gates. Wolf Georg von Kaltental also had the castle equipped in 1726 or 1728 with a baroque portal bearing the Kaltental coat of arms and two rooms on the ground floor with Rococo stucco and ceiling paintings. After the castle had temporarily fallen to Württemberg, it was sold in 1755 to two Aldingen citizens. From 1816, a brewery was located in the castle. In 1836, the eastern half of the castle was sold for 2,775 guilders to the municipality of Aldingen, which established a school with an apartment for the schoolmaster in the castle and a room for the municipal council on the 2nd floor. Until the end of the 20th century, the castle was used as a town hall; today it is privately owned.
