Algersdorf Castle

The first mention of the estate under the name “Algeristeti” occurred in 1050, when the free Eppo exchanged it with the Archbishop of Salzburg. In 1102, Aribo, a brother of Aribo Hartwig, donated the castle to Göttweig Abbey. This in turn exchanged it in 1161 with Margrave Ottokar III for possessions in Lower Austria. Around 1300, Friedrich von Algersdorf sold the castle to Hermann Windischgrätzer. Later, his descendant Friedrich Windischgrätzer had to pledge the property to Walter von Hanau, who donated it in 1377 to the parish of Voitsberg. In the 14th century, the estate lost its importance and became a farm. In 1402, Michael der Prem sold the estate to the widow of Eckhart Windischgrätzer and her son Choloman.
