Allner Castle

The first documented mention of Allner Moated Castle dates back to 1420, when it was owned by Arnold von Merkelsbach, who subsequently called himself “genannt von Allner”. In the mid-16th century, ownership passed through marriage to Wallraff Scheiffart von Merode. Around 1650, Bertram Scheiffart von Merode began converting the moated castle into a stately residence. At the end of the 17th century, the property again changed hands through marriage to the Spies von Büllesheim family. After a lost legal dispute at the end of the 18th century, Allner Castle fell to Franz Ludwig von Hatzfeldt, who regularly spent several months a year here. His son-in-law Clemens von Loë later took over the castle, where the future Field Marshal Walter von Loë was born in 1828. Maximilian von Loë used the castle from 1837 to 1848 as the seat of the district administration for the Siegburg district.
