Allstedt Castle

The first mention of the locality Allstedt dates back to 777. The castle itself is first mentioned between 880 and 899 in a directory of Hersfeld Abbey. In the 10th century, the imperial estate passed to the Ottonians, who issued charters here, including King Henry I in 935 and Emperor Otto II in 979. From around 1150, the palatinate was administered by vogts. In 1363, the Palatinate of Saxony-Allstedt was established. The oldest surviving structural elements date from the mid-13th century. Under the Noble Lords of Querfurt, who owned the castle from 1369 to 1496, renovations were carried out, including the residential tower and the expansion of the castle complex. From 1496, under Elector Frederick the Wise, the current buildings, including the east wing, were constructed.
