Alme Castle

The origins of the current castle date back a long time. In 1325, Oberalme Castle was built, while the political affiliation of the archdeaconry of Hallinghausen with Alme belonged to the Duchy of Westphalia of the Electorate of Cologne, but ecclesiastically to the Diocese of Paderborn. In 1428, Godert von Meschede acquired a house and stone structure in Niederalme from the Lords of Thülen. In 1430, Archbishop Dietrich of Cologne ceded the Tinne estate to Godert von Meschede. A first distinction between the houses of Ober- and Niederalme occurred in 1493, both remaining in the joint possession of the cousins Gerd and Heinrich von Meschede. Gerhard von Meschede built Niederalme Castle in 1506.
