Altdöbern Castle

The origins of Altdöbern Castle lie in an early German moated castle. Between 1571 and 1586, a new Renaissance building was erected on this site after Hans von Dieskau acquired the estate. In 1717, under Major General Alexander Dietrich von Eickstedt, construction of the current Baroque castle began, as the Renaissance building seemed too modest to him. By 1750, under Carl Heinrich von Heineken, the complex underwent an expansion, with the garden significantly enlarged and equipped with numerous Baroque elements. A redesign took place from 1880 under Heinrich Graf von Witzleben-Alt-Doebern, who had the castle rebuilt in a mix of styles, including onion domes and a sandstone facade. The Baroque garden was also transformed into a landscape park.
